Terms of Service

1. Scope of licence

Licensor grants you a personal, limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable, revocable licence to access and use Citadel Money for your own personal or internal business purposes, for as long as you comply with this agreement. We reserve every right not expressly granted here.

Citadel Money is a hosted service, not software you install. You may not copy, resell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or offer it to third parties as your own.

2. The service, and what it does not do

Citadel Money helps a household plan a monthly zero-based budget, record transactions, and work through the Citadel Map financial phases.

It does not move money. Citadel Money never executes a payment or transfer, places a trade, changes a payroll deferral, cancels or purchases insurance, refinances a loan, or claims a benefit. Every action that affects your real finances is one you take yourself, elsewhere.

3. Not financial advice

Citadel Money provides budgeting tools and educational content built on the Citadel Map framework. It does not provide individualised investment, tax, insurance, or legal advice, and Licensor is not acting as your fiduciary, broker, or adviser. Guidance in the app is general in nature, the assumptions behind any projection are shown alongside it, and every recommendation requires your explicit decision before it is applied to your plan.

You are responsible for your own financial decisions. Consult a qualified professional before making significant ones.

4. Your account

• You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding agreement.
• You must provide an accurate email address and confirm it. Financial data is not retained on an unconfirmed account.
• You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account. We strongly recommend enabling multi-factor authentication.
• Do not share one account between two people. Invite your partner to the household instead, so each of you has your own credentials.
• Notify us promptly at the address below if you believe your account is compromised.

5. Households and partner access

A household owns the budgets, transactions, accounts, and history. The person who creates it is its owner.

• Inviting a partner gives them full access to the household’s shared financial data — budgets, transactions, accounts, funds, debts, and history. Invite only someone you intend to share all of that with.
• Couple Accord reflections, ranked values, and draft snapshots stay private to their author until that author chooses to share them, as described in the Privacy Policy.
• The owner may revoke a partner’s access at any time. Doing so does not delete entries that partner created — the household’s financial record stays intact.
• We cannot arbitrate disputes between partners. Where a household’s members disagree about shared data, the owner controls access. We will not adjudicate ownership of a joint budget, and we will not disclose one partner’s private, unshared Couple Accord responses to the other under any circumstances.

6. Subscriptions and payment

• Free — Everything you need to run a zero-based budget. No card required, and no expiry.
• Citadel Command — $7.95 per month, or $79.95 per year.

Unlike our iOS applications, Citadel Money is billed directly rather than through Apple or Google. Payments are processed by our billing provider; card details are entered into that provider’s secure components and never reach our servers.

• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any applicable tax.
• You may cancel at any time from Settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.
• If we change the price of a plan you are on, we will notify you before it takes effect and you may cancel rather than accept it.
• If a payment fails we may retry it and may suspend paid features. Your data is never deleted because a payment failed, and export remains available on the free tier.

6a. Automatic renewal

Your subscription continues automatically until you cancel it, and we will charge the payment method you gave us at the start of each new period. We tell you this again, in the same words, on the screen where you subscribe.

• What renews, and how often. A monthly subscription renews every month at $7.95. An annual subscription renews every year at $79.95. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any applicable tax.
• There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee. You are never locked into a period beyond the one you have paid for.
• How to cancel. Open Settings → Plan and billing and cancel there. It takes effect immediately, online, in the same place you subscribed — you never have to telephone us, email us, or ask a person. If you would rather write to us, support@citadel-map.com also works.
• What cancelling does. It stops future charges. Your paid features continue until the end of the period you have already paid for, and your household then returns to the free tier with all of your data intact.
• Before an annual renewal. We will email you a reminder between 15 and 45 days before an annual subscription renews, telling you the date and the amount, so a yearly charge is never a surprise.
• Before a price change. If we change the price of a plan you are on, we will email you at least 30 days beforehand. The new price only applies from your next renewal, and you may cancel instead of accepting it.

This section is our compliance with California’s Automatic Renewal Law (Business & Professions Code §17600 and following), and we apply it to everyone rather than only to California residents.

6b. Refunds

• Fourteen days, no questions. If you are not satisfied, tell us within 14 days of your first payment on a plan and we will refund it in full. This applies to the first payment on each of the monthly and annual plans, not to every renewal.
• Renewals. After that first period, payments are not refundable for time already elapsed. Cancel and you keep access to the end of the period you paid for.
• Charges that should not have happened. A duplicate charge, a charge after you cancelled, or a charge you did not authorise is refunded in full, whenever you tell us. Cases like these are not limited by the 14 days above.
• If we cause it. If a failure on our side leaves the service substantially unusable for an extended period, contact us and we will put it right — by extending your subscription or refunding it, whichever you prefer.
• How to ask. Email support@citadel-map.com. We aim to respond within two business days and to send the refund to the original payment method within five.

These are our terms, not a limit on your rights. Consumers in the United Kingdom and the European Union have a statutory right to cancel a digital service within 14 days. Consumers elsewhere may have similar rights under local law. Nothing here reduces them, and where a statutory right gives you more than this policy does, the statutory right applies.

7. Your data

• Your financial data is yours. We claim no ownership of what you enter.
• You grant us only the licence needed to operate the service for you — to store, process, compute on, back up, and display your data to your household.
• You can export your budgets and transactions, and request a complete copy of everything we hold, at any time, on every tier including the free one.
• You can delete your household from Settings. Deletion requires confirming your identity, then a 30-day recovery window, after which it is permanent and irreversible.
• Deleted transactions remain recoverable for 30 days, then are permanently removed.

How we handle your information is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.

8. Bank connections

Where account connections are offered, they are made through a regulated financial data aggregation provider. You authenticate directly with your bank through that provider, and we never receive your banking credentials. Your use of the provider is additionally governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy, presented to you before you connect an account. Connecting an account is always optional; the service works fully with manual entry.

9. Prohibited uses

You may not:

• Access, or attempt to access, another household’s data.
• Probe, scan, or test the security of the service except as described on the Security page.
• Use the service to launder money, commit fraud, or violate any law.
• Automate access in a way that degrades the service for others, or circumvent rate limits.
• Upload malicious code, or interfere with the integrity of the service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Licensor and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or connected with your use of the service, your violation of this agreement, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

11. Availability

We aim for high availability and will give notice of planned maintenance where practicable. The service is provided on an as-available basis and we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Citadel Money depends on third parties — hosting, email delivery, payment processing, and financial data aggregation — and their outages can affect it.

12. Termination

Your rights under this agreement will terminate automatically, without notice, if you fail to comply with any of its terms. You may stop using Citadel Money and delete your household at any time.

If we discontinue the service we will give reasonable notice and a window in which to export everything. Where we suspend an account for breach, and where we can do so safely and lawfully, we will tell you why and give you the opportunity to export your data first.

13. No warranty

THE SERVICE AND ANY FUNCTIONS PERFORMED OR PROVIDED BY IT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. LICENSOR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

You remain responsible for verifying your own figures. Citadel Money performs arithmetic on the information you give it; it cannot know whether that information is complete or correct.

14. Limitation of liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL LICENSOR BE LIABLE FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR ANY INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR ANY OTHER COMMERCIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, HOWEVER CAUSED AND REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY.

In no event shall Licensor’s total liability to you for all damages exceed the greater of fifty US dollars ($50) or the amount you paid Licensor in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above may not apply to you.

15. Export compliance

You may not use or export the service except as authorised by United States law and the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is used. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, and that you are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

16. Governing law

This agreement and your use of the service are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, excluding its conflict-of-law provisions. You and Licensor submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in San Mateo County, California.

If you reside in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another region with mandatory consumer protections, nothing in this agreement limits rights you hold under the law of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.

17. Changes to this agreement

We may revise this agreement from time to time and will update the date above. Where a change is material — particularly to pricing, partner access, or data retention — we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised agreement. If you do not accept a change, your remedy is to cancel and export your data.

18. General

If any provision of this agreement is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. This agreement, together with the Privacy Policy, is the entire agreement between you and Licensor regarding Citadel Money.
